A 5 day long film festival takes place every summer in Motovun. For the past nine years it has trasformed itself from an amateur idea into one of the most important festivals in the region. During these five days the viewers can enjoy a succession of independence film projections, and the program starts at 10 am and ends at 4 am. The daily program is shown inside the movie theatres, and the evening and night programs are projected out in the open. Every year 80 films are shown: feature films, short films and documentaries. The only condition a film has to satisfy in order to enter the competition is that''its originality has to fit into the freeminded atmosphere of the festival''. Motovun Film Festival was the first international Croatian movie festival, set up in 1999, when the old movie theatre in the small town of Motovun was renovated. The evening projections on the main town square have had the most visitors since the first day. But not everything is only about the films here. In the film school of Motovun lectured world famous movie makers who taught acting and directing techniques to everyone who was interested, and since every year a different country or a region partners with the festival, there are theme evenings, exhibits and concerts together with the food degustation representing the guests. A separate story is festival's atmosphere that has been highly praised since the beginning. Motovun is a small town, and it is not easy to find accomodation there. The organizers have set up a free camp accomodation to all the visitors, and in the town and its outskirts a lot of agritouristical lodgers offer a pleasant sojourn. You should make reservation of accomodation few months in advance, because the festival is visited by several ten thounsands of people.
