The island of Šolta is located 16 kilometres away from Split. The untouched environment and beautiful landscape on Šolta allows everyone to have the holiday of their dreams. The coast is very indented and is broken up by 24 bays.
The main settlement on the island is Grohote, which is located in the island’s interior. The other large villages are Nečujam, Maslinica and Stomorska and Rogač.
Rogac is the main port of the island, where the ferries and catamaran embark. The town beach is well cared for, but in Rogač the secluded bays and crags are a favourite for swimmers.
Grohote is the largest place, whose inhabitants have for centuries engaged in farming. There is a well-preserved tower here from the 12th century, and also a church from the Middle Ages that has frescos.
Maslinica is the ideal destination for those who want to escape the bustle of the city and everyday life. The beaches are unspoilt, there is almost no traffic at all and there are a number of good quality restaurants in the village. Maslinica is the most western village on Šolta, and watching the sunset here is a special experience.
Nečujam is the most beautiful bay on the island, and is a village that is made up mainly of weekend houses and hotels. The town beach is the largest on the island, offers a number of supplementary amenities and is intended for swimmers of all ages. The rich nightlife, and excellent range of food on offer are only a few of the qualities that make Nečujam a modern summer destination.
The largest peak on the island is Vela Straža, which is at a height of 236 metres above sea level. After a gentle walk to the top you will be rewarded with a beautiful view over central Dalmatia.
Šolta is famous for its excellent olive groves and vineyards, and the local honey is also very well thought of. This island will show you how people used to live in Dalmatia in the past, and at the same time it has all the facilities of a modern summer destination.
