Pag is one of the largest Croatian islands and has 270 kilometres of coastline. As well as having beautiful beaches, the island is also known for its rocky surface, salt farms and olive groves. Ninety percent of the island’s surface area is covered by rocks and pastures, which are full of aromatic plants. The sheep from Pag eat these plants, which gives their cheese a special taste and has made it famous around the world. Two other symbols of Pag are the lamb and the lacework – both unique and memorable. In addition to the ferry line, Pag is connected to the mainland by bridge. The main inhabited areas on Pag are: Novalja, Povljana, and Šimuni. The most developed towns for tourism are the town of Pag and Novalja, whilst the other villages are dedicated to family tourism in peaceful, natural surroundings.
The town of Pag is the administrative centre of the island and located in the bay of Pag, which is made up of more than 20 kilometres of sandy beaches. The town of Pag was established in the 15th century when in a salt farm worked these parts. Today the salt from Pag is famous for its good quality, and it is possible to see how it is dried in special pools. The town was built according to the drawings of the famous artist Juraj Dalmatinac in long ago 1442. It is thanks to him that throughout the entire town there are architecturally valuable buildings and decorations such as balconies, doorposts and stone crests….
If Pag is the administrative centre, then Novalja is centre for tourism on the island of Pag. This Croatian version of Ibiza is the number one hotspot for nightlife in the region, and the main association with Novalja is that it has beautiful beaches. The numerous beaches and coves offer a relaxing holiday, which is augmented by a variety of additional activities, and also a wide offer of clubs, restaurants and cafes. As well as the valuable artwork in the parish church in Novalja, you cannot afford to miss the Roman waterworks, whose water is refreshingly cold even on the hottest days.
Šimuni is a small fishing village with a beautiful marina, an excellent auto camp and a beautiful beach.
Povljana is a village on the south side of the island and ideal for sailors and surfers. Similar to the other villages and towns, in Povljana you can stay in hotels, campsites and family guesthouses.
