Located between Ugljan and Dugi Otok, the small island of Iž is ideal for those who want to escape the bustle of the city and the stress of everyday life. Surrounded by ten uninhabited islands, the island Iž is teeming with beautiful bays and hidden beaches that will offer you total privacy and a comfortable stay. The villages on the island are Veli Iž and Mali Iž. Mali Iž is located on the southeastern coast of the island and is an ancient centre for glagolithics in these parts. If you visit the village, you will be able to see buildings from the 9th century. There are no hotels in the village but you can stay in one of the family guesthouses, apartments or holiday homes.
Veli Iž is renowned for its swimming area, the beautiful parks and the Homeland museum in which you can find out about all the history of the region. There is a hotel in the village, and sailors have a marina available with 150 moorings. Today the people from Iž engage in traditional activities – the growing of fruit and vegetables, olive growing and pottery. If you visit the island in the summer then you will have the chance to be present at one of the traditional Iž festivals, and get to know more about the island’s ancient traditions.
