Island Brač

Brač is the highest island in the Adriatic and the third largest island on the Croatian coast. The island is covered by fir trees, olive groves and white stone, which is one of the most famous types of stone in the world (the White House in Washington is made from Brač stone, the Diocletian palace in Split, etc). For tourists, today Brač is one of the favourite destinations in the Adriatic. The main centre of the island is Supetar, and the larger villages are Pučišća, Bol, Postira, Milna and Sumartin. Bus routes connect the villages on Brač, and there is an airport on the island where smaller aeroplanes can land.

Supetar is the administrative, business and cultural centre of the island. The port is also located here, and the ferry connects the island with Split. Supetar offers a wide range of accommodation, from top quality hotels and apartments, to rooms and campsites that are intended for less demanding visitors. As well as the main beach, there is also a series of smaller beaches, where some are wild and some are cared for, and therefore there is something to suit the tastes of all generations. Supetar has a rich nightlife and a rich cultural life, and in addition to the numerous cafes and discos Supetar also has a cinema, that is frequently host to popular musicians, as well as concerts of classical music.

In terms of size, Pučišća is the second largest settlement on Brač. It is situated in a deep bay and famous for its international music school, as well as having the only school for stonemasons on the island.

Bol is the most well known village on Brač, and the only coastal village on the southern side of the island. It is well known because of its distinctive beach Zlatni Rat, its crazy nightlife and its tennis courts. Throughout the year Bol is host to many tourists who are looking for a good party. The Bol beaches extend for 15 kilometres, and staying on them is a special experience.

Zlatni Rat is the most famous beach in Bol. It is a headland that is about a thousand metres long, whose shape changes depending on the direction the wind is blowing. As a result, it is a protected geo-morphological monument. Bol has crystal clear sea, and the winds allow a variety of water sports.

Beautiful sandy beaches shape Postira, and in the centre there are the Renaissance houses of large estate owners.

Milna is the prettiest port on Brač, with a marina and a little church that holds valuable works of art.

Sumartin is located in a bay to the south east of Brač, and is full of white stone houses and is celebrated because of its old Christian church from the 9th century.

Vidova gora (778m) is the highest mountain on the island of Brač, as well as the highest mountain on all of the Adriatic islands. There is a beautiful view on the whole of Brač and Hvar from its peak. As a result of the frequent snowfalls that create a winter wonderland on this Mediterranean island, it is a favourite destination for day trips for the people of Brač in winter.
