Located on a small peninsula, it has about 2500 inhabitants. Through history, Novigrad has been under the rule of the Greeks, the Turks and the Venetians, and its rich but difficult history is reflected on its buildings and cultural heritage. As a result, the town is surrounded by walls and its mainly narrow and winding streets and are interlaced with small shops.
The Baroque churches that are on the outskirts of the town enhance its rich architecture, and the museum collection of antique stone monuments is one of the most important of its kind in Croatia. There are a number of art galleries in the town, and lovers of culture will be delighted with the summer festival ‘Music nights’, where renowned performers from both Croatia and around the world are guests.
For those who want a Modern party, Novigrad offers discos, dance terraces and casinos, and the biggest party is during the time of the Fish Festival, when the whole town celebrates together.
Accommodation is available in hotels, auto-camps and private households, and sailors have available the Novigrad marina with all its additional facilities.
