Ever since the 14th century, Lovran has hidden between the green slopes of Ucka and the blue Adriatic Sea. In the olden times it was known as a fishing village and port, and thanks to the gentle climate and kind hosts it has already had a reputation as a tourist resort for a hundred years.
It was directly as a result of tourism that during this period the town’s architecture changed, where the walls from the Middle Ages were replaced with luxurious villas in which today it is a delight to sit. The parish church of St. George has a rich collection of church plates, and the town square is notable for its huge tower from the Middle Ages, which is today a painting atelier and art gallery.
The Nature Park of Učka has well kept cycling and hiking paths, and it is especially pleasurable to take a walk on the 12 kilometre long promenade – the Lungomare that connects the Opatija Riviera (Lovran, Ika, Ičići, Opatija and Volosko).
Lovran has the resources for active tourism, so you can try your hand at kayaking, caving, diving, paintball, rafting and other similar activities. If you are perhaps looking for a quiet holiday, Lovran offers you two well looked after beaches and lots of little hidden coves for a leisurely break. Asides from tourism, Lovran is today also famous for being a treatment centre because of its world-renowned orthopaedic clinic. You can find accommodation in the hotels, luxurious secession villas or family houses, and you can try some of the local specialities in one of the restaurants or inns.
