Today this former fishing village is a favourite summer spot for many tourists from central Europe. The clean sea and beautiful sandy beaches are only a few of the reasons why it is essential to visit Crikvenica. Due to its proximity to the city of Rijeka, and thus its transport links, Crikvenica is very well connected to all the larger European towns, as well as the nearby Kvarner islands.

As a result of having a large number of sunshine hours and a gentle Mediterranean climate, for decades the town has been a recognized health resort for pulmonary and rheumatic illness, and is one of the most popular towns for tourism on the Adriatic. Part of the eight-kilometre long beach is reserved for nudists, where the nudist camp Kacjak offers a holiday in untouched natural surroundings. The Blue Flag (a European award for clean sea) speaks volumes about the cleanliness and quality of the sea, and it is remarkable that the sea in front of Crikvenica has a visibility of up to 30 metres.

A visit to the Frankopan castle is interesting, whose historical role has replaced by a tourist one – today it is a hotel. The aquarium is of particular curiosity, where in an area of 200m2, exotic and unusual (for this area) fish species are kept. The town has a wealth of restaurants with excellent local specialities, and there are open-air discos and beach bars for the young. Fish festivals are held frequently, and the start of the year is reserved for the traditional carnival processions.

In Crikvenica you can visit one of the art galleries, and in the summer there are often open-air classical music concerts. In the town harbour, or in one of the travel agencies, it is possible to organise a trip into the surrounding countryside or take a boat to one of the numerous islands.
