The Brijuni Islands are made up of two larger islands (Veli and Mali Brijun), and twelve smaller islands that are 3 kilometres away from the Istrian coast. This natural oasis became popular amongst tourists more than one hundred years ago, and in the time of Josip Broz Tito it became the President’s residence. Then it was a luxuriously outfitted summer seat with carefully nurtured plant and animal examples.
The long-term popularity of this pearl of the Jadran is evident in the archaeological remains of the Roman Empire and Byzantine period, which shows that wealthy landowners from Antique times stayed in the magnificent villas.
The Brijuni islands were declared a National Park in 1983. One of the highlights for visitors is the safari park, where it is possible to see rare plants and animals that in reality are not natives of this climate.
Events these days are various. On the Brijuni Islands, plays are held with world-renowned actors as guests in them, and members of the nobility come for polo matches and horse races. On the island it is possible to stay in hotels and villas where you will find rich gastronomic offers. The hotels are well equipped for all types of business meetings and congresses, and various forms of team building are offered.
The easiest way to get to the Brijuni Islands is via a 15-minute boat ride from Fažana. There is also an access point for yachts, where sailors have a special service available for them that ensures their stay is as comfortable as possible.
