Bale

This settlement from the Middle Ages is near Rovinj and has about eight hundred inhabitants. A citadel in gothic style dominates the town, and in the Parish church there is a preserved sarcophagus and wooden Roman cross from the 13th century. The settlement used to be a military camp, and today it is adorned with old conserved buildings and streets that are paved with light stone. The local museum has a rich archaeological and ethnographic collection, and dinosaur bones have been found in the nearby surroundings.

Since the settlement is not close to any of the beaches, the atmosphere is more peaceful than in other Istrian towns. You have on offer private accommodation and various types of hunting tourism.

We recommend that you visit the exhibition of “Castrum Vallis”, where renowned artists exhibit. Also, at the beginning of August, Bale celebrates its day, where a large party is organised and known as ‘Bale’s night’.
